While I am not the first to admit that the issue of Gay marriage is a polarizing issue often talked about as a “no brainer” on both sides, I think the discussion needs to be open and honest in order to find some area for growth and learning on both sides. I was reading this article in the USA Today yesterday and thought it had some good points pointing out the holes in traditional Christian thought on the subject.
But if people really want to use the Bible as our governing legal document, then we need many constitutional amendments, including one that bans divorce except in the very narrow circumstances the Bible permits it. This would be a tough one for evangelicals, since their divorce rate is almost identical to that of atheists and agnostics.
This is a very real issue in the Church today, i would challenge the Church to change its approach to this issue so that hypocrisy is not what people think of when they think of Christians.
